'Australian Locomotive Rosters' was first started by Brad Peadon and Daven Walters in 2000. It took the form of a book that we had published through Railmac. This website is compiled by Brad Peadon, in a joint effort with Bradly Coulter and Daven Walters. Recently we trialed some fleetlists on the main 'Semi Retired Foamer' website. Such was the popularity, we have decided to move them to their own site. Initially, we will were sticking with the SRF theme of covering locomotive types that were around in the 80s and 90s. However we are now beginning to expand our coverage.

Now Open: 'Australian Locomotive Rosters' group. This will be a contributor only group to both share latest fleet changes and help us to update..

MELBOURNE B TYPE TRAMS.

Website: Brad Peadon

Listing: Bradly Coulter

Photos: Both Brads

Update: 2-4-2026

The Melbourne B1 and B2 class trams were built in the 1980s by Comeng as part of a push to modernise the Melbourne tram network. The B1 class, introduced from 1984, were the first articulated trams in Melbourne, featuring two sections joined by a pivot to increase capacity. They were a major step forward at the time, offering improved passenger comfort, better acceleration, and a more modern design compared to the older W-class trams that dominated the system for decades.

The B2 class followed soon after, entering service from 1988, and built upon the B1 design with several upgrades. These included dot-matrix destination displays, improved interiors, and better accessibility features, making them more passenger-friendly. Both classes became a familiar sight across Melbourne, especially on busy routes, and while the B1s have since been withdrawn, the B2s remain in service today, continuing to play an important role in one of the world’s largest tram networks.
